Hals Conquest
About the game Hals Conquest is a 2D pixel art fighting adventure game set in a fictional country in the early 20th century.
The game has a steampunk theme and is about a turned mentally insane man nick-named "Hal" on his quest to destroy the world, the game will feature semi-destructable environments with tough enemies and bosses, it will have some exploration to it and a fairly lengthy campaign, it will longterm have a splitscreen or local PvP multiplayer with a multitude of the characters from the game to play with.
It is being solely developed by halbear1 in their free time in Unreal Engine 5 and is self funded, although similarly to space game it will have a kickstarter when the game is progressed enough to have something reasonable and engaging to show.
Development History The game has been in development since 2018 and was originally titled "Hals Journey", it has had a rocky start to its development, switching from 3 game engines and being restarted multiple times with the story of the game undergoing constant changes.
It was originally an RPG Maker XP game, but was moved from top down 2d to 3d with the godot-based game engine RPG in a Box where it was developed for over 3 years in, it was remade three times with the oldest version looking like this:
The game engine RPG in a Box(which was in early access when the game was being developed in it) was updating so much that it was easier to move all the assets to a new, fresh project than adjust the existing game to the changes, eventually it was realised that, while being a really good engine that was lovely to work with, RPG in a Box was not optimised enough to do what was wanted, and so it was completely restarted in Unreal Engine 5 and renamed to "Hals Conquest" in July 2023 where it has remained in development since.
